More on Mortification!
If you just can’t get enough of mortification (since I just posted on it) you should check out the new issue of Tabletalk from Ligonier Ministries.
Here’s a little digression – I fear that words like mortification drive people away from faith, there is so much explaining that needs to be done to bring this message to people outside of our language-clique… sometimes reformed folk say this word without realizing that they are having a discussion that might alienate the listeners.
This word goes into my bucket of “words that are absolute treasures of theological worth, but of no worth to someone who does not know the basics.” I love this word, I love the principles behind it, but I also want to control my use of it – concentrating on the doctrines behind mortification before I say the word for it.
Peace.
Thanks to Between Two Worlds for pointing me to this.
