A Sky- Gerhard Tersteegen

God Himself be thy spirit’s Sun,
Shining through thee with light and bliss!
Clear, and joyous, and pure and calm
Must thy soul-sky be, for a sun like this!

This reformed pietist mystic (who was actually opposed to the works of the Moravians), is best known for his hymns. This poem comes from a book called “The Spiritual Lottery” (Frommen Lotterie) translated by E. A. Durand in 1874. Of note, the emerging church’s attempt at new monasticism bears a lot of similarity to the semi-monastic life that Gerhard Tersteegan led — agitation at the structured church is nothing new. This book is well worth checking out, there is value in simple devotion to Christ.
