An army without weapons

“…but contrary to the rest of men, enlist on your behalf an army without weapons, without war, without bloodshed, without anger, without stain, an army of God-fearing old men, of God-beloved orphans, of widows armed with gentleness, of men adorned with love.”

Clement of Alexandria, The Rich Man’s Salvation (or, more literally, “Who is the rich man that is being saved?”), 150-216,17 AD, date of writing unknown.

Putting on the Armor of God helps too. Thanks for sharing. (Dr. John sent me your way.)

Margaret,
I couldn’t agree more! No second century army would dare issue marching orders without the correct weapons and equipment to get the job done.
Thanks for posting.

hmm. I think they took this literally when they launched the Child’s Crusades. I do not think it worked out too well for the children.

Beane,
I don’t think this was what they had in mind at the time of the children’s crusade, that was a sad and bizarre confluence of events. This was written in a spiritual sense to get people with lots of money to support the health of the local church.
