weird, very weird. i don’t know who these people are or what they do but i did look them up and if it’s the people i found they have a problem with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. there is a letter on their website from the assistant inspector general for investigations (under accomplishments) that acknowledges their allegation that they told President Regan of “the use of counterfeit and substandard parts throughout the nuclear industry.”

this is the second book i bought at the Stephen Shore lecture. i love the packaging.

lately i’ve been thinking more about what i want to do with my photography and i found this lecture to be beneficial and enjoyable. things to take away:

1. always continue thinking about your approach and how you see things. (i’ve been thinking about going back to school but i know i need things to be more solid; i thought i needed to find what my “thing” is. but ironically what annoys me about some artists is that they find one thing and they never seem to do anything else. hearing some of Stephen Shore’s journey through photography showed me it’s important to continue questioning one’s approach.)
2. it’s important to find the balance between being so snap happy that you aren’t paying enough attention to what you’re doing and being so hyper aware that you have shutter-finger anxiety (and hardly take any photos).
3. digital can give us more spontaneous images because there is less concern about wasting film (money). film can give us more thoughtful images because we’re aware that each frame costs something.

last night i went to a lecture: The Nature of Photographs with Stephen Shore at Boston University. i ended up buying both of his books that they were selling and stood in line to have them signed. i’m much more of an introvert and get rather dorky when interacting with strangers and people i’m intimidated by. growing up i was so shy it almost hurt to be around people. i’ve since gained a much healthier amount of confidence. so when i was standing in line i thought wouldn’t it be great if i asked him if he would allow me to take his photo but i felt like i was that suffocatingly shy kid again and when my turn came i “dorked out” (as my husband says) and all i could say was thank you. way to go becca, way to go. so along with working on my photography skills i need to work on my interpersonal skills. the annoying thing is when you get to know me i can say more than i should but otherwise i’m the silent one.

Arno Rafael Minkkinen was there. i didn’t say hello but you should really check out his work if you’ve never seen it.
